Our story of creating a fast, hassle-free video editing solution
We have one team member I nicknamed “the tinkerer.” He is always trying new things and has far-ranging interests – from ultimate frisbee to gourmet cooking. But professionally he is one of the best front-end developers/interaction designers in the business.
“The tinkerer” had been working on a video-based side project to satisfy a need in his ultimate frisbee life. One day, he decided to show it to me.
It’s not the first time we had to edit videos, but we don’t do it every day. I was dreading the idea of trying to do this video compilation using our existing tools. We aren’t and don’t want to be video production experts, yet outsourcing video editing is costly and time consuming.
Seeing “the tinkerer’s” rough demo, the pieces started to fall into place. Maybe there could be a video editing solution for the non-video editor. A tool simple enough to use without investing hours learning complicated software.
As our full team talked, we quickly identified uses for a simple video editing tool — from lacrosse game highlights to dance audition reels. None of us needed a complex tool. To use a camera analogy, we needed the “point-and-shoot” solution, not the SLR option.
